Analysis of sociodemographic, clinical, and lifestyle factors associated with cognitive aging

Introduction Cognitive aging is defined as the cognitive decline during process. Most skills deteriorate in old age; however, there are individual differences speed of and severity neuropsychological deficits. Objectives The aim study was to delineate associations sociodemographic, clinical, lifestyle factors with aging. Methods 302 participants aged 60 years above (mean age 69,6±7,2; range 60-92 years) were included study. Women 69.9% group (N = 211). Subjects completed questionnaire (sociodemographic anthropometric data, chronic diseases), depression intensity assessed by Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). functions evaluated using MiniMental State Examination, Trail Making Test, Stroop test, selected tests from CANTAB battery (Pattern Recognition Memory, Spatial Span, Working Memory). Results Age influenced most studied functions. Higher education level more frequent activities (e.g. reading crosswords) had a protective effect on performance assessing working memory executive attention test part B sensitive negative impact age, lower level, frequency activity. body mass index (BMI≥28) diabetes associated worse spatial memory.
